The city of Chicago recently announced the free museum day schedule for the summer of 2017. The days are open to all Illinois residents with free admission to select museums on select days. To get free admission guests must present a valid Illinois ID to the teller to receive the discount.

The museums that participate in the free days include: Adler Planetarium, Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Botanic Garden, Chicago History Museum, DePaul Art Museum, DuSable Museum of African American History, The Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, and Shedd Aquarium.

The Adler Planetarium is open for free admission from June 5 to June 9. The Art Institute of Chicago’s free admission days are on Thursdays all throughout the year. The Chicago Botanic Garden is open for the public with free admission year round, but must pay parking fee of $25.

“The Art Institute of Chicago is my very favorite and I’m actually a member with them,” said Mrs. Wiist, social studies teacher. “I really love art, and the connections between art, literature, and history.”

The Chicago History Museum is free admission to all Illinois residents every Tuesday from 12:30pm to 7:30pm, according to chicagohistory.org. The DuSable Museum of African American History is also open every Tuesday for free admission.

The DePaul Art Museum offers free admission daily for all Illinois residents all year round, according to the DePaul University art department website.

The Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, and Shedd Aquarium all offer free days throughout the year for Illinois residents. The Field Museum will be open free of charge June 21-23. The Museum of Science and Industry will be open from June 5-9 as well as the 12th. Shedd Aquarium will be open June 5,6,12, and 13.

The Children’s Museum is free all year long on Thursday evenings from 5pm to 8pm. The Clarke House Museum is free all year round every day as well, according to chicagonow.com.

The Lincoln Park Zoo offers free admission to all Illinois residents throughout the summer.

The city of Chicago also offers many more exhibits and attractions that are free admission to Illinois residents, as well as free days throughout the year for some of the more well known museums like The Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry.
